At least one time per year you should be vigilant and check your annual credit report. Your free credit contains vital information about you, information that lenders will study very hard before rating you and deciding what interest rate you should receive. Your credit report statistics are available to anyone through the various credit bureaus. The information is obtained very easily by almost anyone who wants it. If you have ever had financial difficulties like bankruptcy, late payments, liens, etc. it will all be listed on your annual credit report.

The three big reporting agencies, Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion, keep this information on file and will provide it to creditors for a small fee. Each American is entitled the right to know what is included in their annual credit report, some medical information will be included in the report. Most experts recommend to request your credit report every year, minimum. This will allow you to visually check each item and correct or omit anything wrong. If you have been turned down for a loan for any reason, are turned down for insurance coverage, or denied employment, the reporting credit report company must supply to you the name, address, and phone number of the consumer reporting agency that provided the annual credit report as well as any reasons for being rejected.
