Free Credit Score

When you go to www.safecreditreport.com and apply for a free credit score report, you should receive it very quickly, depending on which credit bureau you request the report from. By law, within thirty days, the credit bureau must respond to you and complete their investigation. There are several ways the credit bureau can respond. Unfortunately, sometimes your letter of dispute gets lost in the mail or you did not include enough information.

If you do not get a response, rewrite the dispute letter more clearly and send it Certified Mail Return Receipt to ensure that they will receive it. Document the date you sent it out and keep copies of everything you send out; always send everything Certified Mail Return Receipt. You may get a response from the credit bureau, but it may not be the desired response, such as a letter of rejection stating that your claims are frivolous or irrelevant. At this point, you must send another letter of proof (if you can) and demanding that the negative listing be removed. You may get a rejection letter from the credit bureau's stating that you are manipulating the system.

You must respond back sternly reminding them that it is their duty to investigate the dispute and that all you want is for your free credit score report to be accurate. You may get a response stating that the investigation has begun, quite a witty way to extend their thirty day period, wouldn't you say? You must wait for them to respond in another thirty days. Or, your dispute may be forwarded to another credit bureau, which will delay the entire process, and all you can do is wait. Lastly, you will receive a new credit report with the correct changes, review it carefully and make a copy of it and document it. Although this is your goal, you must now make sure that all credit bureaus have the same accurate information. This is a lengthy process that may take months to resolve, but is well worth it in the end.
